[Promotum] Humorous Family Anecdote

Mom's visiting FL next week, will be staying with a cousin of my
grandmother. She reminded me of a humorous story from my grandparents
wedding day.

Seems that several of my grandmothers cousins (aforementioned cousin
included) had decided to pull a prank, and kidnap the bride. They were
prepared to fend off my grandfather in a full frontal physical attack-
which wouldn't have been too hard as he's a skinny engineer type. He got
his degree in Electrical Engineering I think, somewhere in the '30s, and
right after they got married he started working for GM's Electro-Motive
division, who were selling the then brand new Diesel Electric locomotives
which were displacing the old steam engines; he was sent all around the
country to service them, my grandparents liked to say they went on a 2
year honeymoon. Anyway, he's a skinny engineer type, and the protagonists
of our little tale are some 4-5 husky corn-fed Iowa boys, so it was a
pretty lopsided match, on paper at least.

So after the wedding they grabbed my grandmother and started to head for
the car, with several of them creating a rear-guard activity to keep my
grandfather at bay. Whereupon my grandfather, seeing the futility of
doing direct battle against a superior number of burly opponents, did an
end-run around them. He got to the car, popped the hood, pulled the
distributor cap and tossed it into a nearby field with chest-high grass/
weeds. He then commenced to throw spark plug wires and any other easily
removed parts in the same general direction until the perpetrators cried
uncle and returned his bride to him. As the story goes they spent the
next several hours digging around in the field looking for their car
parts while the rest of the family enjoyed the reception...

Now that's MY kind of hero... ;-)

Peace,
